BIOSECURITY WASTE DISPOSAL
Welcome to Ace Waste’s Biosecurity Waste Disposal services. Biosecurity Waste, often referred to as “quarantine waste,” is any material that poses a direct threat to Australia’s economy and environment due to the introduction or spread of pests, diseases, or invasive species. Includes items like:
- contaminated plant materials
- animal products
- other items confiscated during quarantine inspections
As per the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, proper quarantine waste disposal is not optional – it’s compulsory. If not treated and discarded correctly, these items/materials can cause severe damage to our precious plant species, flora, and fauna.

Secure and Compliant Biosecurity Waste Disposal
Biosecurity waste is a highly regulated waste stream. Many items of which are quarantined and may be marked for treatment (and afterwards allowed in the country) or may be deemed contraband.
What is defined as quarantine waste may differ slightly according to specific state legislation. However, biosecurity waste is typically known to include:
- (at least in a broad sense) timber
- plastics
- pallets
- food items (including scraps and seeds) and other related items
- all kinds of plants/plant by-products
- all kinds of animal/animal by-products.
Ace Waste has the capability and capacity to handle any biosecurity waste disposal you need.
Quarantine waste
Quarantine waste is a waste stream that belongs with the biosecurity waste category. This refers particularly to goods seized during quarantine inspections, which pose a risk to Australia’s vital biosystems. But it also includes any items that are exposed to, or come into contact with, biosecurity waste, which are required to be confiscated for the same reasons.
This waste stream may include a variety of categorisations including live animals, food and drink items and weapons such as automatic knives and daggers. For a more comprehensive list you can visit the relevant Australian Government webpage.
Shipping waste
As a more specific and location-based type of biosecurity waste, shipping waste can comprise quarantine and contraband waste but is that which is dealt with as a result of shipping operations.
Ace Waste deals directly with the disposal of waste from vessels and shipping facilities. Waste items include all freight items and the packaging and other apparatus they arrive in, eg. pallets, shipping containers etc. This goes right down to the refuse and remnants from overseas vessel holds.
